Location & Directions-
Owu falls is in Owa Onire village, Ifelodun L.G.A Kwara state, located approximately 5 hours’ drive from Lagos. You drive through Ibadan (Oyo), Osogbo (Osun), Offa (Kwara) then Omu Aran (where Landmark university is located) and finally Owa Onire (you will see the signpost by the roadside pointing to the road that leads to the village)
The fall is 7km to the village of Owa Onire. To find Owufalls, you would first have to visit it with a local as it is still not yet a touristy environment, because getting directions there can be complicated. Lately, the locals have turned it into a bit more of an accessible and less dangerous. One advice, never go alone and if you must do first visit the Chief’s house, that way you get a tour guide to accompany you
Wear comfortable shoes – trainers or hiking boots are strongly advised.
Entrance fee –
Free apart from a freewill donation you can willingly give to the community
Time to visit
I recommend going in the morning, it is still less sunny, the long hike won’t be accompanied by a basking sun.
Most waterfalls during raining season are very slippery so it’s better you walk around barefoot. Shoes lose grip, you slide everywhere, and you eventually take them off anyways.
This spot should be into a natural reserve or some sort of resort, but I don’t believe that is going to happen very soon. But the locals have made it much more accessible by car, at least to certain distance.
Date we visited-May & August
